The Acoustic Modeled Trumpet Collection is available now for Windows in VST and Standalone versions at a price of $179. Note that audio examples are available.
Abbey Road Plug-Ins has just announced the release of the Brilliance Pack, a new bundle which consists in three EQ plug-ins providing authentic emulations of vintage EMI 'presence' EQs.
Based on the original modules built in the 1960s, the plug-ins bring these classic EQs to the digital domain. The original RS127 and RS135 EQ boxes were custom-built by EMI technicians in the early 1960s to supplement the limited EQ on the REDD mixing consoles. They were the predominant outboard EQs at Abbey Road throughout the '60s and were used on many famous recordings during this period, including almost every album made by The Beatles.
The plug-ins were developed from original EMI circuit schematics, circuit simulation and digital modelling of vintage Abbey Road units. The plug-ins retain the operation and characteristics of the original hardware and essentially provide the complete range of presence EQs that were used at Abbey Road in the '60s.
Three plug-in modules are included :
- The RS127 Rack is modelled on the original rack-mount Brilliance Control.
- The RS135 recreates the 8kHz boost unit.
- The RS127 Box plug-in was created by modelling the standalone Brilliance Control with an EMI transformer used to connect it to modern consoles. The plug-in features an exaggerated response or 'transformer effect' at some settings, which is due to an interaction between the RS127 and the transformer.
The Brilliance Pack is available now in TDM, RTAS, AU and VST for Mac OS X and Windows at a price of $199. A demo version is also available.
Tascam unveils the TM-ST1 which is a stereo microphone with stereo pattern switching. The recordist can select between 90 and 120 degree pickup to capture more ambience or to reduce background noise. The mid-side design captures a wide stereo field while maintaining a solid center image.
It employs a back-electret condenser capsule for crisp response with a long battery life. The output cable terminates to a 3.5mm stereo jack for use with recorders like Tascam's DR-1. Also included with the microphone are a tabletop stand, wind screen and mic stand clip.
The TM-ST1 is available now at a retail price of $99.

VirSyn has just updated its Multiband Filter plug-in Bark to version 1.0.1.
Bark takes the approach to match the reception characteristic of the final destination of all sound: the ear. The ear behaves as if it contains a bank of filters, each filter passing frequencies within the critical band. Two tones separated by more than a critical bandwidth are received by the ear independently. For this reason Bark contains a filter bank with 27 bandpass filters matching the critical bandwidth.
In fact, the human ear have also its own built in compression system which are based on the critical bands. Consequently Bark incorporates an independent compression algorithm for each of it's 27 bands.
Unfortunately a very important feature of BARK got lost in the last stages of the release. The Linear phase behaviour, which is important for BARK's sound transparency, was broken. With Version 1.0.1 Linear phase is now guaranteed for all filter settings.
Bark is available in VST, AU and RTAS versions for Mac OS X, VST and RTAS for Windows. From now till June 30st, 2008 you can buy Bark for €99.- instead of €169.- Of Course, the update is free for all registered users. Last but not least, a full functional/time limited demo version is also available (a Syncrosoft Dongle is needed).
